Tobacco Vanille is the fragrance through which most people discover Tom Ford. Tobacco leaf, sweet vanilla, cocoa and dried fruits, all in a dense, warm composition that can be smelled from across the room. The question we get most often is simple: should I get a decant or go straight for a full bottle?
The maths
The official 50 ml bottle costs over 200 euros in Bulgaria. With us the Tobacco Vanille decant is 20.50 euros for 5 ml and 38 euros for 10 ml, filled from an original bottle with the batch listed. In other words, for the price of the bottle you could try ten different Tom Ford fragrances and still have money left over.
How long 5 ml lasts
Five millilitres is around 60 to 70 sprays. Tobacco Vanille is extremely long lasting, and two sprays are plenty for a whole day. That means one 5 ml decant lasts about a month of wearing it every other day, and 10 ml a whole season. For a scent that is mainly for autumn and winter, 10 ml often covers the whole year.
Who it is for
Tobacco Vanille is an evening, cold weather fragrance. It works best below 15 degrees, at dinners, holidays and occasions when you want to leave a trace. In summer it is too heavy for most people. When the full bottle is worth it
- When you have worn the decant for at least two weeks and the scent still makes you happy.
- When you wear it several times a week throughout the whole cold season.
- When you are sure you like exactly this version, because Tom Ford has other tobacco fragrances too.
In every other case, the decant is the more sensible choice. The scent is the same, the risk is zero, and the spray vial is more convenient to carry in a bag and when travelling than the heavy glass bottle.
How to wear it
