The story behind the scent: Mulan

The Chinese name of the scent is 不让, "Does not yield". It comes from the famous Chinese saying 巾帼不让须眉, which means that a woman yields to no man in courage and strength. The scent is inspired by the ancient "Ballad of Mulan" (木兰诗), the story of the girl who disguised herself as a man to take her old father's place in the army and came home a hero.

And here is the most beautiful part: in Chinese, the name Mulan (木兰) literally means "magnolia". That is why this very flower is at the heart of the scent. Magnolia looks delicate, yet it blooms at the end of winter, before its leaves, and withstands the cold. The scent combines strength and softness, just like the heroine who inspired it.

Maogeping (毛戈平) was founded in 2000 by Mao Geping, one of China's most famous makeup artists, who has worked on films and television productions. The brand is a symbol of luxury Chinese beauty, has created joint collections with the Palace Museum in Beijing's Forbidden City, and in 2024 became the first Chinese makeup brand listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
