How to recognise an original perfume

The market is full of fake perfumes, and some are made so well that at first glance they look no different from the original. Here are the signs to watch for.

1. The price

If a luxury perfume is sold at half price or less, there is almost certainly a reason. Discounts exist, but a niche fragrance for 30 euros a full bottle is not a bargain, it is a warning.

2. The batch code

Every original bottle has a batch code printed or engraved on the bottom. The same code is usually printed on the box too. If the two codes do not match or are missing, be careful. The batch code can also tell you roughly when the perfume was produced.

3. The packaging

Original boxes are made of thick cardboard, with clean printing, no spelling mistakes and precisely aligned text. The cellophane is wrapped tightly, not wrinkled or stuck down with glue.

4. The bottle

The glass is smooth, without bubbles or irregularities. The cap fits exactly and sits firmly. The atomiser sprays an even, fine mist, not a jet.

5. The scent itself

Fakes usually start strong and resemble the original in the first minutes, but quickly fade or turn sharp and alcoholic. The original develops gradually and stays for hours.

How we work

All SwiftScent decants are filled from original bottles bought from proven sources. For every product you will see the batch code of the bottle the decant was filled from and the year of production. That way you know exactly what you are getting.

Browse all decants and check the batch of each fragrance in its description. If you have a question, write to us.
