Silver Black (also known as Onyx) is a discontinued men's fragrance by Azzaro from 2005, created by perfumer Françoise Caron. It is a fresh fruity spicy fougère with a woody base that recalls the classic barbershop style of men's perfumes from the early 2000s. Apple, lime and anise in the opening flow into a spicy heart of juniper, coriander and cardamom, while a base of patchouli, white musk, vetiver and sandalwood finishes with warm, woody depth. It suits a man looking for a familiar but now hard to find scent with the character of a cult classic, close in spirit to Paco Rabanne Black XS and Armani Code.
Fun fact: Azzaro bottles from the era when the brand was owned by Clarins (before the L'Oréal acquisition) carry a 7 digit batch code that hides the exact production date. The third digit is the last digit of the year and the next two are the month, so every original bottle carries its own secret stamp with its birth date, as long as you know how to read it.
